"I drink so I can talk to arseholes. That includes me."
I totally relate to that quote. More so since I moved to Auckland - I find this place terribly cliquey within the industry. Anyway, I digress.
At any rate, last week a friend and I went to see 'When You're Strange', a documentary about The Doors or more importantly Jim Morrison.
The film, part of the film festival, was all old footage of the band and narrated by Johnny Depp. It was this quite beautiful haze of a young man who had this amazing spark and then died too young (see Forever 27 club).
I had forgotten just how much I love The Doors music. Just so very much. I found it quite interesting that in the beginnings the rest of the band were not fans of Jim's voice and wanted a different frontman.
You couldn't have The Doors without Jim though. There is something quite amazing in his eyes, and all genisus' are meant to be tortured souls aren't they?
I shall be hunting down his poetry books I think.
"Each generation wants new symbols, new people, new names. They want to divorce themselves from their predecessors."
